Park Place Garden

The garden at Park Place is the largest garden of the group with approximately 18,000 square feet of space. It is located at 1500 32nd St. S. Each plot has enough space for a small family to have fresh veggies (and a few to spare) throughout the summer.

The land and the water is donated by Park Place Health Care Center, and Ace Hardware generously put together a central water line down the center of the garden with several hose bibs so gardeners don’t have to share a single spigot like they did in the first year. In 2011 two elevated beds were built to accommodate gardeners with physical challenges, and there are plans to increase the number in the near future since they’re attractive and very functional.

Park Place is a patchwork of gardening styles. Rookie gardeners tend their plots next to veteran growers who are more than happy to share their knowledge. Besides traditional tilling and row planting practices, some gardeners build boxes and some have even tried their hand at the Square Foot Gardening method. Permanent plots, which are areas where gardeners can plant perennials fruits and veggies are an option for some gardeners, as well as plots that will be tilled and fertilized yearly. An herb garden is also available for all of our gardeners and the public.

In 2013 a serenity garden was planted for anyone to enjoy. Looking to the future Park Place hope to build a pavilion, tool shed and add benches.

A approx. 300 sq. ft. plot costs $60 for the season. There is a $40 clean up deposit that is refunded as long as your plot is cleared of vegetable debris, fencing, etc. when you no longer garden. The managers for Park Place Gardens are Janice Driver and Janel Krezowski.

  • If you are contemplating having a plot in a Community Garden, I encourage you to take the leap! There are people to help you make your garden a success if you are uncertain. Just get in and dig in the dirt! Plant some seeds! Water a little, weed a little, and soon you’ll be enjoying a harvest! How rewarding is that?

  • Hi, we just moved here last summer, and it’s wonderful to see so many active gardens. I’ve met many of the friendly Park Place gardeners on my dog walking trips through the neighborhood. Are there any plots available? How can I apply for a plot there?
    Kind regards,

  • Would like to join River City Gardens. I live close to Park Place. Do you have a space there?
